Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ahmed Idris Wase, on Wednesday advocated for free and compulsory education for all children in the country.

His assertions contained in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Umar Muhammad Puma.

The deputy speaker added, “I wish to use this auspicious occasion to specially felicitate with our children and wish them good health, steady growth and a prosperous future.

“I believe the best legacy we can give our children in Nigeria is free and compulsory education at least for primary and secondary school. Although we are going through difficult times, I still believe that this is doable and achievable.

“Therefore, I call on stakeholders at all levels of government to think free and compulsory education for our children from today onwards”

Further, Wase affirmed that he was a strong advocate for the education of children as the bedrock of a responsible, sustainable, enduring and strong nation.

He also maintained that if free education is introduced, it will take care of the high number of out-of-school children in the country.

“There are unprecedented high numbers of children roaming the streets in Nigeria, its unacceptable and we must all embrace free and compulsory education to end it”

“Governments at all levels must come together and work towards entrenching this enviable policy of compulsory free education for the benefit of our dear children”.
