Okezie Ikpeazu, the governor of Abia, has hit back at Smart Adeyemi, a senator representing Kogi West in the Senate, for describing him as a “champagne drinking governor”.
Bioreports had reported that the Kogi senator was contributing to a motion on Safe School Initiative in Nigeria when he blurted out that Abia is governed by “drunkards” after comparing the south-east state to his home state of Kogi.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) senator made the comment on the floor of the Nigerian Senate on Tuesday, February 23.

It took the intervention of the Senate president, Ahmad Lawan to stop the senator from attacking the Abia state governor.
In a swift reaction, Ikpeazu labelled Adeyemi’s comment as “careless and dishonourable”, describing him as someone suffering from dementia, Premium Times reports.
The Abia governor, who reacted through his press secretary Onyebuchi Ememanka, said:
“Our view is that the Senator is either suffering from a protracted case of mental illness or is battling with occasional fits of schizophrenia which manifests in making careless, dishonorable, unrelated and incoherent statements.
“If Senator Adeyemi was of sound mind, he should have known that when it comes to education, Abia is miles ahead of his home State of Kogi. Indeed, not just in education but in every single area of development.”

Meanwhile, Bioreports reported that as the race to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023 tactically commences, southwest leaders urged to be united.
The call was made by Ogun state governor, Dapo Abiodun, when he was visited by a delegation of the South West Agenda (SWAGA) in Abeokuta, the state capital.
Abiodun consequently called on leaders of the APC to ensure that Asiwaju Bola Tinubu becomes the presidential candidate if he declares an intention to run.
