Police and emergency services tried to save his life but he passed away at the scene.

He was staying in a room with friends at the hotel near to where he was found – called the Wave House.

Well-placed sources said Civil Guard officers woke up his pals to tell them the bad news because they were sleeping and knew nothing about the tragedy.

The incident is now being investigated to see if the man jumped or fell by accident.

A spokesperson for the British Foreign Office said: ‘We are assisting the family of a British man who has died in Magaluf, and we are in contact with the local Authorities.’

Police say it is unclear if the Briton, who was on holiday with friends at the time he died, jumped or fell from the hotel (pictured). An investigation is underway
