Yoweri Museveni, the incumbent president of Uganda, has been declared the winner of the country’s presidential election conducted on Thursday, January 14.

According to CNN, Museveni’s victory implies that he has now been re-elected for a sixth term which will see his 35-year-old rule extended.

Legit.ng gathers that the country’s election commission said Museveni won 58.64% of the nearly 10 million ballots cast, while opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine) received 34.83% of the vote.

However, Bobi Wine has raised an alarm that the election was marred by irregularities and called on Ugandans to reject the result, according to a report by Aljazeera.

Bobi Wine’s plan to end Museveni’s reign failed

Meanwhile, Bobi Wine had earlier expressed determination that he would end the over three decades rule of Museveni.

In a chat with Legit.ng in 2019 when he visited Nigeria, Bobi Wine expressed confidence that he was going to be the next president of Uganda.

He, however, said that his presidential ambition is not the most important thing. He said what is important is to “infect” Africans with the (revolutionary) mentality.
