The Borderlands movie has officially wrapped filming, and members of the project have shared a new photo of Claptrap to celebrate the moment.

The photo (below) marks the end of production on Borderlands: The Movie. The image also offered fans their best look yet at Claptrap, who was spotlighted in the snap with a clapperboard to confirm that the shoot is now over. It’s our closest look at a main character from the film, after a series of shadowy snaps of the human characters.

Jack Black is voicing the snarky robot in the upcoming Borderlands movie, which is based on Gearbox’s best-selling video game series. The one-wheeled yellow robot has long been seen as the mascot of the Borderlands series, so understandably, fans have been clamoring to see the character’s big-screen counterpart for some time.

The Claptrap model appears to feature many of the video game character’s signature parts, including the inverted trapezoid shape of its body, a pair of mechanical arms with claw-like tools attached, a blue circular lens as an eye, and one singular tire. The robot companion also shares the same yellow color scheme, with a white stripe painted right across its middle. It seems Jack Black’s voice will be the only major difference from the video game version.

This comes shortly after Kevin Hart, who is playing Roland, a character from the first two Borderlands games as well as The Pre-Sequel, acknowledged the team’s commitment to bringing the game to life for the live-action adaptation of the popular looter-shooter. He assured fans that the movie is taking a page from the game in terms of its visual style and overall appearance.

“The fanbase that follows the game is already huge and unreal, but I don’t think they even have a clear understanding of how close we’re coming to the game. It looks like the game. It’s unbelievable, truly unbelievable,” he revealed during a recent interview with Collider in which he spoke about the visuals and described them as being unlike anything you’ve ever seen.

The Borderlands movie centers around Cate Blanchett’s Lilith and her quest to return to the planet of Pandora to recover the missing daughter of “the universe’s most powerful S.O.B., Atlas.” Along the way, she’ll cross paths with Jamie Lee Curtis’ Dr. Tannis, Gina Gershon’s Moxxi, Janina Gavankar’s Commander Knox, Jack Black’s Claptrap, and Florian Munteanu’s Krieg.

The movie, which is said to be loosely based on the games, is being directed by Eli Roth and scripted by Craig Mazin, and is due to be released in 2022.
