Booker mocks Biden: ‘I don’t remember the last time I saw a record player in my community’

Sen. Cory Booker mocked Joe Biden after the former vice president told parents to play records to their kids to help them in school during the Thursday Democratic primary debate.

“I think there a lot of moments where a number of us were looking at us on the stage when he tends to go on sometimes,” the New Jersey Democrat said after the debate. “At one point, he’s talking about people in communities like mine listening to record players. I don’t remember the last time I saw a record player in my community.”

“The vinyl is hot right now. Maybe he’s cooler than I am. There are definitely moments where you listen to Joe Biden and you just wonder. I don’t know — look,” Booker said before CNN host Dana Bash asked him if he was implying that Biden is too old to be president.

Booker, 50, said he did not think Biden was too old, but that the party should nominate someone who is exciting and has energy. The New Jersey senator’s taunts against Biden came after the Delaware Democrat implied that record players are still the most popular listening devices.

“Play the radio, make sure the television — excuse me, make sure you have the record player on at night, the phone — make sure that kids hear words, a kid coming from a very poor school, a very poor background will hear 4 million words fewer spoken by the time they get there,” Biden said before encouraging families to expose their children to more media.

Biden, 76, has been criticized and questioned if he is the most capable candidate after his repeated flubs throughout his presidential campaign.
