Bonaventura out, Milan fans strike

Giacomo Bonaventura is out of Stefano Pioli’s debut on the Milan bench against Lecce, but Rossoneri ultras announce a new protest.

It kicks off at San Siro at 19.45 UK time (18.45 GMT), click here for a match preview.

The new boss takes over from Marco Giampaolo, who was sacked after losing four of the opening seven rounds.

There are several adjustments to be made, as Bonaventura is out of the squad following a muscular problem, where he joins Mattia Caldara and suspended pair Davide Calabria and Samu Castillejo.

Mateo Musacchio returns from his ban to take the centre-back slot alongside Alessio Romagnoli.

There are growing reports Rafael Leao will be given the starting spot in attack rather than Krzysztof Piatek, with Ante Rebic and Suso completing the trident in a 4-3-3.

Lucas Biglia is the only player to have already worked with Pioli at Lazio, so he is the favourite in midfield rather than Ismael Bennacer.

Meanwhile, Milan ultras announced they are ready to continue their protest against the club and squad by staying silent and waving no banners in the Curva Sud throughout this game.

It’ll be a strange atmosphere, as 48,000 Milan tickets have been sold – along with 2,700 representing Lecce – but the ultras will stand in absolute silence for 90 minutes.

Their only comment will be in a series of insulting banners urging the club to turn things around.

Milan squad for Lecce: A Donnarumma, G Donnarumma, Reina; Conti, Duarte, Gabbia, Theo Hernandez, Musacchio, Rodriguez, Romagnoli; Bennacer, Biglia, Brescianini, Calhanoglu, Kessie, Krunic, Paqueta; Borini, Leao, Piatek, Rebic, Suso
