Boko Haram: DHQ set up new base

In its efforts to fight Boko Haram to a halt, the  has set up a new base for intelligence at the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA).

The base is aimed at using Nigerian satellite in space to collect data that could assist in locating Boko Haram and other insurgents in the country.

Director Policy, Planning and Research NASRDA, Dr Francis Chize said that data collected by the agency is also used to measure crop yeild and road construction.

He said this Saturday in Abuja at the NASRDA stand at the ongoing technology and innovation expo 2020.

He said, “We are major data providers that can be used for various applications ranging from agriculture to measure crops and to determine the yield and when the yield is bad, to advice farmers in best measure and road construction.

“NASRDA provides data that can be used for civil and security purposes, we have been working very closely with the security agencies in the country, we also have a defence base administration which is co-located in NASRDA and we work closely in providing data. So far we have covered the whole country over and over again in the area of defense.

“I can’t tell you much because they are security issues but our Nigerian satellite flies over Nigeria every three days and it is capable of taking images and covering every part of the country every three days and we always aqcuire valuable data of those areas whenever possible and the information is disseminated accordingly.”
