NEW DELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation is conducting searches at the residence of RJD MP Ashfaq Karim and MLC Sunil Singh in connection with the alleged land-for-jobs scam, the news agency ANI reported on Wednesday.
Incidentally, the CBI raids are happening on the day Nitish Kumar-led Grand Alliance is set to prove its majority in the Bihar assembly. RJD is the largest party in the Grand Alliance.
“It is being done intentionally. There is no meaning to it. They are doing it thinking that out of fear, MLAs will come in their favor,” said Sunil Singh, RJD MLC on CBI raid at his residence.
RJD Rajya Sabha MP Manoj Jha said the CBI is playing out a BJP scripts, and such raids do not come as a surprise.
“Useless to say that it’s raid by ED or IT or CBI, it’s a raid by BJP. They work under BJP now, their offices run with BJP script. Today is Floor Test (in Bihar Assembly) and what’s happening here? It has become predictable,” Jha said.
It has been alleged that aspirants were given jobs in return for land when RJD chief Lalu Prasad helmed the railway ministry. Prime properties in different cities were later taken over by several shell companies linked allegedly to Lalu’s family.
The CBI alleged that job aspirants either sold or gifted their land in Patna to Lalu’s immediate kin, while a private company controlled by the family was involved in transfer of immovable properties in the name of the family members.
“No advertisement or any public notice was issued for such appointment of substitutes in zonal railways, yet the appointees who were residents of Patna were appointed as substitutes in different zonal railways located in Mumbai, Jabalpur, Kolkata, Jaipur and Hajipur,” the CBI had said in a statement.
