Lionel Messi and team-mates suffered a humiliating loss in the UEFA Champions League on Friday night August 14, after Bayern Munich defeated Barcelona 8-2 in the quarterfinals.

And it will be the first time since the 2005 that both Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo will not feature in the semifinal of the prestigious competition.

Ronaldo’s Juventus crashed out of this season’s tournament in the round of 16 following their loss to French side Lyon.

Messi and Ronaldo have made their mark in the history of the competition with the Argentine winning it four times with Barcelona.

Ronaldo on the other hand have lifted the coveted trophy five times, once at Manchester United and then four times while playing at Real Madrid.

With their ages Messi 33 and Ronaldo 35, fans are concerned that the era of both players is gradually coming to a close.

Recall that in during the 2004/2005 Champions League, Manchester United crashed of the tournament in the round of 16 as young Ronaldo was unable to inspire Sir Alex Ferguson’s side to a win over Italian side AC Milan.

That tournament also saw Barcelona beaten by Chelsea in the last 16 as young Messi was just starting his career.

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique is now willing to leave the club if the board feels he is part of the changes that need to be made in the club after a calamitous ending of the season.

The Catalan giants were thoroughly humiliated by a ‘well-oiled German machine’ in the form of Bayern Munich as they succumbed to yet another heart breaking exit from the Champions League for the third successive season.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Alphonso Davies was in action when Bayern Munich took on Barcelona in a highly anticipated UEFA Champions League quarterfinal clash against Barcelona.

The left-wing defender faced the legendary Lionel Messi on Friday night, a player he claimed to have been his hero during his childhood days.

“Growing up, I used to watch him all the time and now I’m defending against him; it’s going to be a whole different ball game,” Davies told UEFA about facing Messi.
