Bastoni pulls out of Azzurrini squad

Inter defender Alessandro Bastoni has pulled out of the Azzurrini squad due to injury, replaced by Venezia youngster Nicolo Casale.

Coach Paolo Nicolato had to replace Bastoni from the U21 squad, as the Inter defender picked up an injury in the win over Hellas Verona and will not be able to play against Iceland and Armenia.

Bastoni has played six times in Serie A for the Nerazzurri this season and will now be assessed by the medical team at Inter, who are waiting on the seriousness of the issue and the time of recovery needed.

It is not believed to be a particularly serious problem, a bruise that simply requires rest.

Italy are currently two points behind Iceland in Group 1 of the UEFA U21 Championship qualifiers and need a win on Saturday. Northern Ireland currently lead their group, with a three-point gap down to the Azzurrini before their match away to Armenia on Thursday.
