Barcelona succumbed to a humiliating defeat at the hands of Bayern Munich but that could only be a start of an embarrassing string of problems for the Catalan club.

The Catalan side was subject to relentless scrutiny and trolling from fans worldwide after the defeat, with the most prevalent sub plot being the fact that their very own Phillipe Coutinho scored a brace against them from the bench on the night.

Coutinho famously ditched Premier League outfit Liverpool for Barcelona in 2018, in a move which the Brazilian claimed was aimed at “going to a club which knows how to win trophies”.

Of course those remarks did not age well as Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp have thrived very handsome and for Barcelona, it is a case of “where do we go from here?”

Back to the Coutinho question and the £142m deal between Liverpool and Barca had an interesting clause which entitled the Reds to a hefty bonus if Coutinho somehow managed to win the Champions League.

Ofcourse at the time, Barca were trying to revamp their squad to be competitive in the European elite competition and the clause did not seem like such a huge deal back then.

Two years on and the Spanish giants face the prospect of suffering a double whammy for their decision to loan out Coutinho to their Champions League rivals.

The Sun reports that there is a clause which states that should Coutinho win the Champions League between the 2018/2019 or the 2019/2020 season, the Barcelona would have to pay Liverpool £4.5m.

Bayern, from the way they ripped apart Barcelona, look like the favorites to go all the way, although they still have to face either Manchester City or Lyon in the semi final.

For Coutinho, he made a statement in the game against his parent club with superb performances amid reports linking him to a possible loan move to Arsenal.

Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how German champions Bayern Munich on Friday night, August 14, qualified for the semifinal of the 2019/20 Champions League after beating Spanish side Barcelona 8-2.

It was a tough game for Barcelona and even their fans who never thought their players would concede such goals against Bayern Munich.

Bayern Munich started the encounter impressively and scored their first goal in the 4th minute through Thomas Mueller who got a brilliant assist from Robert Lewandowski.
