The Katsina State government have awarded contract for the renovation and upgrade of Mobile Police Barracks in Katsina valued at N117, 965,367.38 and also approved the recruitment of qualified youths from each of the 34 local governments to be trained by the Police.

The State Governor, Aminu Bello Masari, who made the disclosure during the presentation of the State’s ‘2021 budget at the State House of Assembly, said these measures were aimed at stepping up the handling of banditry and other criminal activities as well as boosting other security measures already in place in the state.

The governor further decried what he called “senseless acts of criminality by bandits” against the people of Katsina State, adding that his administration has made much efforts in collaboration with the security agencies towards the protection of lives and properties.

He said, “The State Government was pained by these senseless acts of criminality, much as it made efforts in collaboration with the security agencies towards the protection of lives and properties.

“As usual, we did not rest on our oars but continued to regularly offer all necessary logistics support to the security agencies to enable them confront and tame these security challenges.”

He further admitted that the outcry by Katsina people on the security situation reached both the Presidency and the High Commands of security agencies, sequel to which series of security assessment visits and stakeholders meetings by federal security and other agencies were convened in Katsina.

He added that the Presidential directive on banditry activities had created mass deployment of troops of the Nigerian Army and Mobile Police Force being stationed at strategic positions across volatile areas, including: Jibia, Batsari, Safana, Danmusa, Kankara, Faskari, Dandume and Sabuwa local government areas.
