Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, has named two players who impressed him during their 1-0 loss to Aston Villa in a pre-season friendly on Saturday.
Ollie Watkins’ first-half goal proved to be decisive at Villa Park.
It was United’s first pre-season fixture, as they prepare to kick off their Premier League campaign next week against Crystal Palace.
Although the players struggled for sharpness, Solskjaer was impressed by goalkeeper Dean Henderson, defender Teden Mengi and new signing, Donny van de Beek.
“There were some positives as well, some good positives like individual performances.
“I thought Deano showed his authority back there, and he played like a proper Man United goalkeeper.
“And especially in the second half, you saw Teden when he came on, how exciting a prospect he is,” he said.
On Van de Beek, who arrived this summer from Ajax, Solskjaer added: “Donny was maybe the biggest plus in the outfield.
“He’s such a finder of space, and he creates time for himself with his timing and movement. I was very happy with his performance.”
