Arsenal make move for Ancelotti

Italian reports suggest Arsenal are in pole position for Carlo Ancelotti, ahead of Everton, after Napoli sacked the coach.

The decision to fire Ancelotti was announced just hours after a 4-0 win over Genk, which sent them through to the Champions League Round of 16.

It had been widely reported the decision was already made by President Aurelio De Laurentiis and he’d be dismissed regardless of this evening’s result.

That effectively proved to be correct, as Ancelotti met the patron in a very brief meeting at the Hotel Vesuvio in Naples.

Gennaro Gattuso has already been lined up as his replacement and should be announced on Wednesday morning.

Meanwhile, there are already Italian reports from Sky Sport Italia and Tuttomercatoweb that Arsenal are in pole position to snap up former Milan, Chelsea, Real Madrid, PSG and Bayern Munich boss Ancelotti.

They already fired Unai Emery and are currently working under caretaker manager Freddie Ljungberg.

It’s reported the Gunners have immediately leapt into action and tried to contact Ancelotti.

Everton are also interested, but Arsenal are comfortably the favourites, especially as he already has experience of working in London.

Ancelotti can take on a job abroad, but is barred from accepting another Serie A role within the 2019-20 season.

This is because Italian rules forbid a coach from working for two different clubs within the same league in one campaign.
