Over 21,000 coronavirus cases have been reported in Africa, with 5,000 recoveries and 1,000 deaths, the World Health Organisation (WHO) has said.

The organisation has compiled a list of African countries experiencing this deadly disease with the number of cases reported.

In its list, WHO indicated that Nigeria’s confirmed cases stand at 541, this shows that the list was compiled before Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) gave its update on the deadly disease.

According to NCDC report, as at 11:50 pm on Sunday, April 19, there are 627 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Nigeria.

In the list that was published by WHO, South Africa has 3,158 confirmed cases of coronavirus, Algeria has 2,629, Ghana has 1,042, while Cameroon has 1,016.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that a medical doctor identified as Dominic Essien died in Akwa Ibom state after showing symptoms of the deadly coronavirus.

He was a physiotherapist, who owned a private clinic in Uyo and was also a lecturer in the Department of Physiology, University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom state.

The incident was confirmed by the chairman of the Akwa Ibom state chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Nsikak Nyoyoko.

In other news, the coronavirus patient who attended the 2020 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, Seun O, has narrated his experience while at the Lagos isolation centre in Yaba.

Seun, who is a photographer, was recently discharged after defeating the deadly disease. He said he had severe body pains and was the only person that lost his sense of smell out of 16 people in his ward.

Seun said: “I also had diarrhea at many different points before I got to the hospital and at the hospital.”
