A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos, Hon Jude Iwu, has said that he is hopeful that the party’s national vice chairman (southwest), Taofeek Arapaja, would move the party in the region to greater heights.

Bioreports reports that Iwu was the Oshodi/Isolo constituency 2, aspirant for House of Representatives during the last general elections.

The party chieftain said that the experience of Arapaja as a former deputy governor of Oyo state and Nigerian ex-ambassador to Jordan and Iran would be brought to bear in reshaping the party in the region.

He said:

“It is the beginning of a new dawn for the South West region of the party with the successful zonal election and with the overwhelming support that the zonal chairman got from delegates, I am convinced that will spur him to work hard to bring the long-awaited peace and progress to our party.

“We are happy to have a performing governor in Oyo State in the person of Seyi Makinde. He is doing wonderfully well and by 2023, PDP will get at least three additional governors in the region.”

Iwu maintained that he was impressed with the input from Chief Bode George, the former deputy national chairman of the party, stressing that with people like him supported by a vibrant zonal chairman, PDP would be the party to beat in 2023.

The party chieftain added:

“I want to urge all those who participated in the last zonal election and did not win to join hands with Arapaja to build our great party. The contest was between a family and not the winner takes it all.

“I am very sure that Arapaja’s hands are open to embrace those who contested against him for the larger interest of our party. He has the capacity to move the party to greater heights but we must support him.”

Meanwhile, Bioreports had previously reported that Arapaja said that if all hands are on deck among the ranks and files of the Lagos chapter of the PDP, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) would be defeated in 2023.

It was reported that Arapaja made this known in Lagos on Thursday, March 11, during a stakeholders meeting where he was endorsed for the position of national vice-chairman (southwest) of the party.
