“The APC was the appropriate vehicle that will bring full economic benefits to the state.”

Some Nigerians on social media have been reacting to the comments of the Cross River state governor.

Osa Director wrote on Twitter:

“Ayade joined APC to attract federal benefits for himself, obviously!”

Tukura Nuhu Nyigwa wrote:

“Which assistance? Ask APC states whether they get the federal assistance you are talking about. Don’t worry, very soon Fulani herdsmen will visit your state as federal assistance.”

Tamuno Warisoma wrote:

“Cross River state people better prepare for what’s coming. Learn from Ebonyi state. Federal assistance usually comes on foot with cows, guns, and machetes.”

Anyanwu Kenneth wrote:

“What are the benefits from the federal government? Are you serious? Your state has oil and gas Ayade. The federal government should be attracted to you, they should be begging you. States like Anambra, Rivers, Lagos, etc. You don’t know what you have.”

Wale Adekola wrote:

“Why is he speaking from both sides of his mouth? Before he said he wants to help Buhari and now he wants to attract federal presence. I think he is confused.”

Meanwhile, Donald Duke, a former governor of Cross River state, has lamented over the defection of Governor Ayade to the APC.

In a statement publicly announcing his return to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Wednesday, May 26, Duke said it is unfortunate that Governor Ayade convinced him to return to the PDP only for him to defect to the APC soon after.

On the same day, Legit.ng reported that the chairman of the PDP caretaker committee in Cross River state, Effiok Cobham, confirmed during a press briefing, that Duke has returned to the PDP.

When asked to confirm the speculations that the former governor had returned to the party, Cobham confirmed that Duke has registered with the PDP.
