The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for steering the Nigerian economic ship out of recession.
The party was reacting to the latest report by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) which shows that Nigeria exited recession in the last quarter of 2020.
In a statement sent to Bioreports on Thursday, February 18, and signed by the acting national secretary of the party, Senator John J. Akpan Udoedehe, the APC said Nigeria’s exit from recession gives credence to Buhari’s next level plans for the country.

Part of the statement read:
“President Buhari promised Nigeria will exit the economic recession within a short time. That promise has been kept.
“Commendably, Nigeria’s exit from recession is the country’s first growth in three quarters amid the coronavirus restrictions and consequent economic slowdown. It was not a fluke but a result of well-planned measures lined up by the federal government to ensure a quick exit.
“The APC commends stakeholders, particularly the National Assembly, private sector and indeed Nigerians for supporting economic initiatives implemented by the President Buhari government to exit recession.”
Bioreports had earlier reported that Nigeria exited recession as the country’s economy grew by 0.11 percent in the fourth quarter of 2020.
The latest development comes after two consecutive quarters of negative growth which resulted in Africa’s biggest economy sliding into recession, the second time under the Buhari administration.
Meanwhile, as the Nigerian economy continues to be unpredictable, stakeholders in the Niger Delta have canvassed for investors in the region to invest in Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) as a catalyst to create employment and ensure global competitiveness.
This was the position canvassed at the maiden edition of the Niger Delta Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises Summit 2021 held in Port Harcourt, the Rivers state capital.
Speaking at the event, the convener of the summit, Moses Siasia, noted that the greatest contributory factor to the growth in Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product is a collection of the committed efforts from young people, including youths of the Niger Delta.
Siasia noted that the youth of Nigeria has been at the forefront of pioneering growth and innovations in technology, agriculture, entertainment, and sports which have brought in revenues for the country.
He advocated for the establishment of a Niger Delta Entrepreneurship Hub, a platform that will bridge the gap currently existing and train, equip and engage teeming Niger Delta youths, thereby creating sustainable livelihood opportunities for them.
