Amelle Berrabah reportedly went bankrupt after her accountant failed to deal with a £650,000 tax bill.

The singer, 35, who is known for being a part of the Sugababes, is said to have received a bankruptcy order in 2013 when Ben White did not file returns to HMRC after the girl group split up.

According to The Sun, a tribunal heard that White did not try to have the order stopped and lied that he did not receive messages from Amelle asking how her case was coming along.

Amelle joined the Sugababes in 2005, replacing original member Mutya Buena after she decided to leave the group.

According to the publication, the singer was told by her management not to worry about finances and was ‘always given the impression that everything was being done.’

The Sugababes finances were said to be ‘in some disarray’ by the time the group went their separate ways in 2011.

While Amelle thought White would help the group out, he reportedly accused her of having ‘buried her head in the sand’. He was fined £7,500 with £83,000 in costs.

A representative for Amelle declined to comment when contacted by MailOnline.

The Sugababes were formed in 1998 with original members Mutya, Keisha Buchanan and Siobhan Donaghy.

Siobhan departed the group in 2001 and was replaced by Heidi Range while Keisha left in 2009 and was replaced by Jade Ewan before the group split two years later.

The original members have since reformed under the Sugababes name and performed on The Graham Norton Show in October 2019.

In February, Amelle announced that her mother had passed away just a week after she filed for divorce from her husband of five years, Mario Sousa Rosa.

Amelle chose to celebrate her mother’s life with the series of intimate snaps, including one joyful image of her mother dancing in a busy kitchen.

Amelle, who shares daughter Amirah Hope, one, with her estranged husband, married the record company boss on October 17, 2014.

A source told Mirror Online: ‘It is a very tough time for them both but their main concern now is raising their daughter together.’

‘The relationship naturally came to an end and the pair became more friends in the end.’

Happier days: It comes after Amelle filed for divorce from her husband of five years, Marcio Sousa Rosa earlier this year (pictured on their wedding day October 17, 2014)
