Amazon said Monday (June 14) that it is opening access to its cloud-gaming platform Luna to Prime members June 21 and 22, which is Amazon Prime Day, according to an announcement on the company’s website. Previously Luna’s gaming pilots required potential users to sign up for a trial from supported Fire TV devices.

Luna is available on multiple devices, including Windows PC, Mac, Fire TV, iPhone, iPad and many Android devices, the announcement stated. Regular pricing is $5.99 per month for access to games, including Control, GRID and Metro Exodus.

A regular Luna account is $14.99 per month and includes the Ubisoft Plus beta channel, some Ubisoft games and supports both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. Luna is supported in the U.S. except for Hawaii, Alaska and U.S. territories. The Ubisoft+ channel beta on Luna includes a selection of cloud-based games, according to the announcement.

Increased competition in the eCommerce space and associated discounts has Amazon ratcheting up promotions for its annual Prime Day sale June 21 and 22, which began in 2015 but usually takes place in early July. This is the earliest Amazon has launched Prime Day in its six-year history.

Amazon’s 2020 hardware event in September spotlighted new Echo devices and Fire TV upgrades — and a flying drone designed to robotically monitor a home’s security. In the midst of the pandemic, the company also kicked its Prime Day sale to Oct. 13 and 14.

It was also the first time Amazon unveiled its new Luna cloud-gaming platform, which at the time was anticipated to go live with early access by invitation in early October 2020.
