Celebrated artist Alison Lapper will turn her son’s ashes into a diamond ring so she can ‘keep him close’ on her wedding day.

She had originally wanted Parys to give her away – but her dream was cruelly snatched away when he was found dead last month aged 19.

Miss Lapper, born without arms and with shortened legs, posed for a sculpture while eight months pregnant with him.

It was later displayed in Trafalgar Square.

She will make a diamond for her wedding band using his ashes and a lock of his hair, and wear the ring on her toe.

Parys, who suffered mental health problems and drug addiction, was found dead in a hotel in Worthing, West Sussex.

The cause is being investigated.

His mother, 54, appointed MBE for her services to art in 2003, said Parys got on well with her fiance Si Clift, 50. 

She added: ‘The ring is the only way I can keep him close to me, so he can be with us on the day.’
