Arsenal star Mesut Ozil has once again shown his generosity as he made a donation of £80,000 to help Muslims who have been affected by the coronavirus crisis during the Ramadan.

The German international who is of Turkish descent has promised to help no fewer than 16,000 Muslims with food all through the month of Ramadan which started on April 23.

His charity organization Turkish Red Crescent will henceforth provide iftar, the evening meal for Muslims to break their daily fast, which will go to families across Turkey and Syria with 2,000 packages expected to be donated.

Kerem Kinik, of Turkish Red Crescent, said: “At the Red Crescent, we stand by those in need 365 days a year.

“Thanks to our brother Mesut, we will be able to deliver packages provided to people in need – delivering them as soon as possible.”

Mesut Ozil is one of the highest earners of the game and he has used his money judiciously to help the needy.

Though the Arsenal midfielder has come under huge criticisms about refusing to accept a 12.5 per cent pay cut during the pandemic, despite pocketing £350,000 weekly.

But according to his agent Dr, Erkut Sogut, the 31-year-old has shown his act of kindness to fund children’s hospital bills and provide shelter for the less privileged.

He is currently paying for 10,000 vital operations for children across the world as well as feeding 100,000 homeless people at 16 refugee camps in Turkey and Syria.

The Arsenal star is further paying £240,000 to fund operations for sick kids in Brazil 4 and working for children’s charity Rays of Sunshine.

Bioreports earlier reported that Ozil, who is currently on a £350k-per-week wages, rejected the Gunners’ proposal to have salaries slashed due to a financial crisis occasioned by the outbreak of coronavirus.

The German star was listed among two other players who were opposed to the decision, with move causing uproar from fans.

The 31-year-old is understood to be willing to have his wages reduced only after the financial impact of the pandemic becomes clearer.
