The Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN), has said the continuous activities of Boko Haram terrorists in the country is not only embarrassing to Nigeria but a “very disturbing scenario.”

COCIN urged the government to as a matter of urgency rise up to her responsibility or the country would be overran by insurgents.

President of COCIN, Rev. Dachollom Datiri, disclosed while speaking on the state of the nation at the Church’s 99th General Church Council meeting ongoing at its headquarters in Jos, the Plateau State Capital.

Datiri said, “This is already engulfing the whole nation as most States of Nigeria are affected. Plateau, Southern Kaduna, Benue, Taraba, Zamfara, Niger, South Eastern States, South Western States, the North-East, to mention but a few.

“What has happened to the professional Nigerian Army that is praised for its clinical and successful roles in keeping peace in other countries? He asked.

“And what has happened to our Police Force? Is our security overwhelmed? Or has our security been commandeered to pursue the agenda of the terrorists?

“These are questions the Nigerian government must answer”, he stressed.

On the activities of Boko Haram insurgents, the COCIN President said, “This has not only become an embarrassment to Nigeria, but a very disturbing scenario.

“It only portrays either a government that is colluding with this terrorist sect, or one that is confused or a failed government”, he maintained.

“Government must rise up to her responsibility, and quickly so, or Nigeria will soon be overran by this terrorist group”, Datiri warned.

On the alarming rate of kidnappings, armed robbery/banditry, Datiri said, “The whole nation is already engulfed in this miserable situation and the lives of countless innocent families in Nigeria have been impoverished as well as plunged into extreme traumatic conditions. Unfortunately, government seems unconcerned.

“For us, by this coming this Wednesday 19th May, Rev. Polycarp Zongo will be seven months in the hands of his captors. “Our hearts have continued to bleed all this while, but to no avail”, he decried.

“Nevertheless, we cannot give up and loose hope. We must continue to hold on to our faith and intensify our fervency in prayer”, he admonished.

He recalled others who are still in captivity to include Lilian Gyang since January, 2020, Grace Tuka since July, 2019, Alice Ngaddah since March, 2018, Leah Sharibu since February, 2018, among others.

“Even some of the Chibok girls are still in captivity since 2014; may God have mercy on us”, he maintained.

Speaking on inflation in the country, Datiri said, “Inflation is hitting hard. Families are no longer able to afford two square meals a day.

“The hardship is palpable and government must rise up to the occasion. Our economic policy as a country needs a complete overhaul”, he stressed.
