13 clubs in the Nigerian National League on Tuesday afternoon voted against the plans of the Club Owners to push for the promotion of the four top teams in each of the groups to NPFL using the PPG format.
The NNL club owners who met on Monday to present the proposal that would have seen the likes of Shooting Stars, Crown FC, Kada City FC and Niger Tornadoes, been promoted to the NPFL, met a brick on Tuesday as majority of the clubs voted against the proposal.
In the expanded virtual meeting which started at 12 noon on Tuesday to finally ratify the agenda of promoting clubs to the elite division of the league, saw 13 clubs voting against the agenda, and insisting that no team should be promoted, while 12 teams voted in favour of promotion of teams. Two clubs had their votes cancelled for voting late against the stipulated time.
Chairman NNL Club Owners Association, Abdul Sule and his Secretary, Layi Adesiyan, decided to stay neutral, while votes from other clubs came late and were voided.
Abubakar Bukola Saraki (ABS), Kwara United both of Ilorin and Dynamite FC, top the list of clubs who voted against the promotion of clubs from the NNL to the NPFL.
At the end of the voting exercise, 13 teams voted against promotion while 12 votedfor promotion.
