Alaba Ann Tam Danagogo, a Nigerian genius from Rivers state, has emerged as the overall best student at Syracuse University in New York, the United States.

The 20-year-old, who graduated with distinctions in Biology Major and Minor in English and Textual Studies, was the valedictorian of the Class 2021 and was selected as a Senior Class Marshall of the university.

Danagogo was recognised as a distinguished Syracuse University Scholar having graduated Summa Cu’m Laude with a 3.97 CGPA in a four-point system, a statement on the university’s website read.

The Nigerian was also awarded the prestigious 1870 scholarship by the university for another four-year medical study.

University hails Danagogo’s brilliance

Speaking on her performance, the university’s dean of the School of Arts and Science, Prof. Karin Ruhlandt, hailed Danangogo as a brilliant student who exhibited a hardworking spirit and resilience.

The don also maintained that Danangogo, apart from her engagement in the classrooms, volunteered to help many organisations, adding that the Nigerian’s “independent research” is incredible.

“In addition to her academics, Alaba has volunteered at hospitals in Syracuse. She was also a student tutor and Event Coordinator for the Food Recovery Network and international student mentor at the Connection Programme in the Centre of International Services and serves as Vice-President of the Aikido Sports Club in Syracuse,” the don said.

The journey was tough but I was myself

Danangogo, who hails from Ijaw tribe of the country, noted that the journey was tough but she kept her head cool and tried to be herself.

According to her, flexibility and resilience were the keys to her academic success.

“I hope to gain the necessary scientific skills to care for those in need and also bring my thoughts to bear through literature and creative writing,” she added.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that a 19-year-old lady had stunned social media with her results breakdown as she celebrated bagging a first-class.

Bilqees Lawal, celebrating the feat on LinkedIn, said she only became a first-class student in her final year as she had started off with a 3.92 GPA in her first year.

Things took a different turn for the 19-year-old as she began developing the growth mindset and the belief that her academic performance could be improved upon.
