A young Nigerian boy, Tani Adewunmi, whose story as a homeless chess player once made waves years ago has now made even greater stride.

An American journalist, Nicholas Kristof, on Sunday, May 2, revealed that the boy, now 10 years old, has won a championship and is now a master chess player at his very young age.

He attached a photo of the kid smiling and holding his trophies. He then went ahead to say that his story is a reminder that opportunities trump talent, which everybody seems to have.

The journalist that years ago the young Nigerian was very lucky that his makeshift house was close to a chess school where he was later given the opportunity to study for free.

In his tweet, he partly said:

“He’s also a reminder that refugees enrich our country (I say that as the son of a refugee).”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that in 2019 that the boy conquered the world of chess after winning the New York State Chess Championship. Adewumi won the top prize in his age category at the New York game.

The little boy had spoken about his life as a chess player and what he wishes to achieve as a talented player.

The 8-year-old explained that he prepared for the game by practicing on chess playing sites. He said he was introduced into playing chess in class.
