The governor of the State of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has advised the Federal Government to declare emergency on youth unemployment in Nigeria, expressing optimism that this would go a long way in tackling restiveness and insecurity in the country.
He underscored the crucial need for the government at the federal level to show more commitment and seriousness in ensuring creation of employment opportunities for the nation’s teeming youths.
Speaking at Osogbo Government House Lawn yesterday at the graduation of the participants in the Osun Youth Empowerment Scheme Technology, popularly known as O’YES-Tech, Aregbesola said the scheme was the flagship of his administration’s policy to salvage the large army of unemployed youths from the scourge of unemployment.
Aregbesola admonished the youth to be very productive and put their training to good use saying “we have opened to you today the doors of limitless possibilities, with the wherewithal to explore and exploit these possibilities”.
Aregbesola beaming with enthusiasm declared that, “we are also preparing our state with the human infrastructure to be able to launch itself into an ICT centre-of-excellence in Nigeria and with the probability of an ICT reputation that would spread beyond the shores of this country”.
The O’YES-Tech, one of Aregbesola’s innovations, is a six-month intensive programme in ICT, primarily conceived as part of the exit strategy for our O’YES cadets, who decide to veer into that sector. It is designed to train 5,000 youths at a time.
