Senate probes non payment of federal judges’ salaries
The Senate has mandated its Committees on Finance and Judiciary to investigate the non payment of four months salaries of Federal judges in the country.
The probe was sequel to a point of order raised by the Deputy Senate Leader, Senator Bala Ibn Na’Allah on the non payment of the salaries of the judges.
Raising the point of order, Na’Allah (APC, Kebbi) said in the last four months no Federal judge has receive salary. He urged the Senate to look into the issue.
In his remark, the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu who presided over plenary said the situation was worrisome.
“This is very worrisome if it is true. We should not put our judges in the situation whereby they are tempted to receive gratification from litigants,” he said.
He said the budget of the judiciary was included in the first line charge to ensure prompt and regular payment of their salaries and allowances.
The committees on Finance and Judiciary were given a week to investigate the issue and ensure that the judges are paid their salaries between now and Monday.
