The State Government of Osun will soon introduce Standard Weight and Measurement into commercial activities with a view to promoting accuracy of measurement, better packaging and mutual trust between the buyers and the sellers.
Commissioner for Commerce, Cooperatives and Empowerment, Ismaila Jayeoba-Alagbada, disclosed this on Friday at the Quarterly Ministerial Media Briefing, organized by the Ministry of Information and Strategy, at Abere, Osogbo.
Alagbada explained that, consultants were given the job to put the said Weight and Measurement in place and the State Executive Council has approved it for implementation.
He further explained that, the group set up for the operations has identified various types of scale and measures suitable for commercial activities in the state, adding that, the scales are already in the state while adequate preparation is on for the launching.
“Twenty Thousand unit of different types of scale are now in the state of Osun, and we are waiting for the lunching of the scale but before ending of this Month, we will do the lunching”, he said .
On another related development, the Ministry has embarked on market development in the state, the objective of which was, according to the Commissioner, to boost commerce and ensure economic development.
According to Alagbada, the state government in collaboration with Odua Investment Company Limited and Concave Development Limited, under a Public Private Partnership Arrangement, has embarked on the construction of Aje International Market at Ido-Osun in Egbedore Local Government Area of the State.
The first phase of the project is expected to be completed before the end of the second quarter of the year.
