In its determination to banish poverty and unemployment in the State of Osun, Governor Rauf Aregbesola has given free interest loan to the tune of N12.2 million to six hundred and ten women after acquiring training under a skill acquisition programme.
The six hundred and ten women drawn from all the local councils across the state were trained in skills like; Tie and Dye, Soap making, Catering, Locust bean making, Beads making etc.
Governor Rauf Aregbesola, represented by his deputy, Otunba TitiLaoye Tomori noted that the curent economic realities and government’s determination to provide a more conducive environment for the women to do business informed the decision to move the loan up from N6. N6.1 million to N12.2million .
He disclosed that the empowerment efforts of government is geared toward eradication of poverty among the rural poor and to also boost the capacity of women city dwellers to do business.
The governor charged beneficiaries of the loan facilities to maximise the opportunity by making the best use of the facility so as to pay back on time and give room for others to benefit.
Aregbesola explained that the rationale behind distribution of drugs and medical consumables was to further his administration’s commitment to the promotion of healthy living among the populace which will in turn increase their productivity level.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Development and Community Affairs, Mr Kunle Ige said the 610 women beneficiaries of the skill acquisition programme has increased the rural women who have enjoyed the scheme to 1,830.
