The Special Adviser to the Governor on Environment and Sanitation, Hon. Bola Ilori made this disclosure during the launching of the second phase of the state’s Restoration for Healthy Living Programme tagged “O’-Clean Plus” in Osogbo.
According to him, the yearly flooding of rivers and streams in Osogbo, Ilesa, Ile-Ife and other towns had continued to destroy property, infrastructure and in some cases, lives, before the advent of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola’s government in the state.
He disclosed that the current Administration in the State took wholistic approach to the flooding through dredging of streams and channels and continuous sensitization of the public towards responsible waste disposal and healthy living.
Honourable Ilori added that, under the initial O’-clean programme, the state government declared a 90 –day emergency mass waste disposal programme, a bi-monthly environmental sanitation programme as well as market cleaning on every Thursday of the week.
The Special Adviser maintained that at present, most rivers and streams that used to constitute menace have become neigbour-friendly.
Special highlights at the occasion were the frying of puff-puff with biogas openly produced at the venue from domestic food waste such as rice and eba, the launching of Environmental Sanitation Enforcement Team.
