Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State has described a former deputy governor of the state of Osun , Senator Iyiola Omisore, as “a grossly misunderstood politician’’.
The governor made the observation in Osogbo on Saturday night at the 29th International Conference dinner of the Multiple District 404 Nigeria of the Lions Club; where he was a special guest.
Omisore was awarded the “Melvin Jones Fellow Award’’.
Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State has described Senator Iyiola Omisore, a Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship aspirant in Osun, as the most misunderstood Nigerian.
According to Mimiko, who referred to Senator Omisore as “Your Excellency” in his speech, the former Chairman, Senate Committee on Appropriation, will soon realise his aspiration to govern the State of Osun.
Mimiko said: “I want to say here today that my very good friend, Senator Iyiola Omisore is in Nigeria, today, the most misunderstood person. But I want to assure him that history will definitely vindicate him at the end of the day.”
Speaking with journalists after the award, Omisore said that he was surprised that the Lions Club International had a record of some of his “silent philanthropic gestures’’.
It will be recalled that Omisore has been fingered in many controversial situations in Nigeria, the most popular of which are the assault on Late Chief Bola Ige at Ooni’s Place and the eventual murder of the late Attorney General of the Federation.
Mimiko recently secured a court victory to validate his second term mandate after the Tribunal held that the illegal insertion of over 160,000 names in the voters registers was a pre-election matter that ACN should have raised alarm over before the election. ACN has now appealed the Tribunal verdict.
Meanwhile, A PDP member in Ikirun, headquarters of Ifelodun Local Government Area of Osun, Mrs. Toyin Adesina was arrested for collecting residents’ voters’ cards under the guise of helping them or their wards secure Sure-P duties.
The ACN Director of Publicity, Research and Strategy, Mr. Kunle Oyatomi said the PDP was desperate at rigging the next year election in the state and it had begun the process of rigging it with the alleged act of one of its members.
He urged the Police to investigate the matter genuinely and get to its root to ensure that the state is cleared from illegal acts.
