Many Nations of the world live under a variety of political systems. Some are purely democratic while some have to cope with the groaning jugular of totalitarianism, autocracy, outright dictatorship or other forms of undemocratic tendencies. Of certainty is the fact that no state of ideal democracy could be found in any part of the world.
The State of Osun, South West, Nigeria was created twenty two years ago, the state to be apt came into existence on the 27th August, 1991 during the military dictatorship of then styled military president; General Ibrahim Babangida . Like others created along with it, those before and after its creation, the state of osun had experienced different forms of government with diverse leadership style. None of them has been so captivating enough to do everything to make the mass of the people happy. Like humans, more of the governments to whom, life could be ascribed has been impeccably upright, it could also be added that none of them has been totally objectionable.
As far as the State of Osun is concerned in the last 22 years, the popular maxim “do your best and leave the rest” has been the case under different administrations both the civilian and the military.
On 27th November, 2010 the State came under a new government that was to change its fortunes for good Ogbeni Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola is the captain of the new ship which has given Osun a new direction and an unprecedented development in all the facets of its life.
His administration is anchored on a six-point integral action plan which seeks to halt poverty, banish hunger, enhancing communal peace, restoration of quality and healthy living as well as promotion of functional education among others.
Within its 100 days in office, the government of Ogbeni Aregbesola has begun to show signs of unusual demonstration of commitments and passion real transformation life of the common man. 20,000 hitherto jobless graduates were employed under Ogbeni’s popular Osun Youth Empowerment Scheme; OYES, a feat which virtually all the states in the country has emulated including the federal government.
“Aregbe” has fondly called by majority of the people of the state formed and adhered zealously to the best standards prospects formulation, implementation and execution.
Concrete efforts which beat people’s imagination were made to check sad incidences of flooding and its resultant calamities in the state through channelization of streams, canals and rivers as no one will want to remember the incidence of 7th July, 2010 not talks of experiencing it.
Ogbeni’s efforts in road building, construction, reconstruction and rehabilitation have been second to none in the annals of the state. Many kilometers have tarred with thick asphalt layers in the State of Osun in the last three years. Each of the 31 local governments is now tarring at least 10km of roads in all nooks and crannies of their councils.
Not this alone, Osogbo the capital city is gradually becoming a beauty to behold as a result of Ogbeni Aregbesola urban and environmental renewal programme.
Unlike the Seven and Half years of inaction and total disservice of his predecessor in office, the last three years have seen Osun development profile rising while solid foundations are being laid for its future growth and transformation.
