Following the effect of incessant exposure of man to loud noise, Commissioner for Environment and Sanitation, State of Osun, Professor Olubukola Oyawoye, has urged Nigerians to cultivate the habit of maintaining a responsible noise level so as to boost human health.

Professor Oyawoye gave the advice in an address delivered on her behalf by the Director of Environmental Health and Sanitation in the Ministry, Alhaji Wale Ogungbe, at a seminar organized by staff of the Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Department of the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital, Ile-Ife, to mark this year’s International Noise Awareness Day.

According to the Commissioner, constant exposure of man to loud noise can lead to such physiological disorders such as high-blood pressure, hypertension, stroke and deafness, while distraction, annoyance, stress and sleeplessness due to noise can induce various forms of psychopathic behaviours.

Professor Oyawoye further explained that ,the best way to limit or stay away from the consequences of loud noise, is for the  industrial areas to be separated from residential areas, while those whose vocations expose them to noise should wear protective devices such as ear mops, ear phones, among others.
