Jamie Lynn Spears ‘ husband Jamie Watson has given an update on his stepdaughter Maddie’s health after her terrifying accident over the weekend.
He has urged everyone to “believe in miracles” in a touching Instagram post, and added that she is “doing better and better” following the scary moment she was rushed to hospital when her off-road vehicle crashed into a pond, leaving her submerged in water for two minutes.
Jamie shared the inspirational message with his followers on social media, and added: “Thank you everyone for the prayers. Maddie is doing better and better. Thank y’all so much.”
It comes after a spokesperson for the Spears family confirmed she has regained consciousness and is talking.
They told People magazine in a statement: “With her father, mother and stepfather by her side, Maddie regained consciousness mid-day Tuesday, February 7.
“The 8-year-old daughter of entertainer Jamie Lynn Spears was involved in an ATV accident at a family home Sunday in Kentwood, La. Paramedics resuscitated her and she was airlifted to a local hospital.
“She is aware of her surroundings and recognises those family members who have kept a round-the-clock vigil since the accident.”
It continued: “Doctors were able to remove the ventilator today and she is awake and talking. Maddie continues to receive oxygen and is being monitored closely but it appears that she has not suffered any neurological consequences from the accident.”
According to a police report, Maddie was at home in Louisiana with parents Jamie Lynn and her stepdad Jamie Watson when her ATV crashed.
The report, obtained by People magazine, says the accident happened in full view of them.
Just before 3pm on Sunday, Maddie was steering the ATV – which she reportedly got for her 7th birthday – in order to avoid going over a drainage ditch.
“In doing so, she overcorrected causing the ATV to enter the pond,” the report states. “The ATV and child were instantly submerged in the water right before their eyes.
“Within seconds the child’s mother, stepfather and other family members reached the pond, dove in and attempted to rescue the child to no avail. The child was trapped and secured by the seatbelt and the ATV’s safety netting.
“Within two minutes, Acadian Ambulance Services arrived and assisted in freeing the child from the cold waters.”
After news emerged, Maddie’s family members urged people to keep her in their prayers.
Britney Spears tweeted on Monday: “Need all the wishes and prayers for my niece.”
While Maddie’s granddad Jamie shared: “All I can say is pray for our baby Maddie.”
