Dialogue and reconciliation the solution to Fulani herdsmen killings – APC chieftain
A leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Martins Ogbiya, has revealed what could be done to end the needless clashes between farmers and Fulani herdsmen, which have resulted into loss of lives and valuables in the country.
According to Ogbiya, a leading governorship hopeful on the platform of the party in Bayelsa State, the thorny issues around herdsmen/farmers’ relations would eventually be resolved through dialogue and reconciliation irrespective of the extent of damage done.
He made this remark at the thanksgiving/ birthday ceremony of a newly promoted army officer, Major Gen. Henry Ayamasaowei.
He explained that it was best that peaceful options were explored in this case as opposed to Nigerians suffering needless losses only to return to dialogue at the end.
He recalled that militancy crisis in the Niger-Delta was eventually contained largely through dialogue, which he said, “was proof that non-violence is the best prescription for the resolution of the current crisis that is threatening large swathes of the country as concerned parties put up stiff resistance to protect their livelihood, land and centuries-old ways of life.”
Ogbiya also commended President Muhammadu Buhari for his steadfastness in addressing serious security crises in the country while calling for understanding among Nigerians for the President in his quest to deliver on all his campaign promises.
He said President Buhari was a man of integrity, desirous of fixing all the problems militating against the county but needed time and the cooperation of Nigerians to get this done.
The aspirant, during the event saluted the Nigerian Army under Lieutenant General Tukur Yusufu Buratai for remaining professional and apolitical paving way for highly disciplined officers like Maj. General Ayamasaowei to rise meritoriously to his new rank.
