Aregbesola Congratulates Osun NUJ Over Successful Election; Charges On Pursuit Of Democracy
The Governor of the State of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola has urged the newly elected members of the Nigeria Union of Journalist (NUJ) Osun Chapter to be objective and fair in the discharge of their duties.
In a congratulatory message signed by the Director, Bureau of Communications and Strategy office of the governor, Mr. Semiu Okanlawon, Aregbesola admonished the Biodun Olalere-led executive to uphold the sanctity of fairness and truth for a successful administration.
The governor charged the NUJ executives not to be found wanting in their responsibilities, reminding them of the sacred duties of journalists as the mirror and watchdog of the society, who, as a matter of necessity, must hold government accountable at all time.
Aregbesola admonished Olalere and his team not to compromise their constitutional role, asking them to discharge it without fear or favour.
He said, “I congratulate you and your executive members on your election. Your victory was a reflection of the wishes of the majority of your colleagues.
“This time tested duty is a sacred assignment, you must be guided by it and perform your constitutional roles without fear or favour. You must never compromise”, he advised.
The governor also commended the Union for the peaceful and democratic ways employed in selecting their executives, saying that all hands must be on deck at ensuring the survival of democracy in the country.
