2014: Osun PDP Member Apprehended For Selling SURE-P’s Slot In Exchange For Voter’s Cards

A member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State, Toyin Adesina, has been arrested for allegedly offering the electorate money and jobs in exchange for their voter’s cards.

She allegedly pledged to get them jobs through the Subsidy Reinvestment Programme (SURE-P) in exchange for their voter’s card.

The woman was apprehended at the weekend at Ward 2 in Ikirun, Ifelodun Local Government Area, and handed over to the police.

She is being interrogated at the state Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Osogbo, the state capital.

It was learnt that Adesina approached a neighbour with the offer and the neighbour reported the matter to the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) chieftains in the area, who alerted the police.

The ACN chieftains include Alhaji Kehinde Olamolu and the Secretary of the council, Mr. Sanusi Lawal.

The suspect told reporters that the PDP was planning an empowerment programme for its members through the SURE-P, adding that she was moving from house to house to find out who was interested.

She said she told them to bring out their voter’s card for identification to ascertain that they were PDP members.

Adesina said she was wrongly accused.

Police spokeswoman Mrs. Folashade Odoro confirmed the arrest. She said the command was investigating the matter.

Olamolu and Lawal alleged that the PDP had started implementing strategies to rig the 2014 governorship election.

They said the “voter’s card fraud” may not be limited to the council, adding that the ACN will resist any form of electoral manipulation.
